Vicente Verez

 

Vicente Verez Bencomo, leader of the group that develops the world first vaccine containing a synthetic carbohydrate antigens for use in humans.

 

The vaccine was originally introduced in Cuba against Haemophilus influenza type b and further prequalified by WHO in 2009.

 

His work on pneumococcus conjugate vaccines was continuing since 2008 when he became general director of a Center for Biomolecular Chemistry and since 2014 General director of Finlay Institute.

 

Emeritus or Honorary member of the Cuban National Academy of Science, the Third world academy of Science, Latinoamerican glycobiology Society.  Doctor ¨Honoris Causa¨ Université de Québec au Montréal (UQAM) and Knight « Legion d'honneur »France
